Wolfowitz needs to go. I dont think this because of the Shaha Ali Riza scandal. He needs to resign, because he is terrible as the president of the World Bank.
Here is a guy who made a mess of many lives by leading US into a war with Iraq, and Bush rewards him with the post of World Bank President. His mandate was to clean up the World Bank Bureaucracy and to hold countries accountable for how they spend their loan monies. Very good, and much needed. But then, all he does is arbitrarily deny/grant loans to select countries, and appoint 'loyal bushies' to strategic posts. Other people at the World Bank were so alarmed by all this, they asked for some documented lending guidelines. Paul W. couldn't deliver.
Essentially, Wolfowitz is making World Bank into an instrument to enforce US foreign policy. This is not what the institution is about. Plus, he is a terrible manager. He needs to go before he does more damage.
And, maybe they should revisit this convention of US always appointing the president of World Bank and Europe always getting dibs on president of IMF. Two very important monetary establishments. Rest of the world should have a voice there.
Here is a good article about Wolfowitz and his World Bank term (New Yorker).
