Tomatoes

Lynne Rosetto Kaspar calls Roma the eunuchs of the tomato world. I always thought it was just heirloomism snobbery, but then I ate my first Cherokee purple tomato from the backyard yesterday and got what she was saying. My palette is not sophisticated enough to detect nuanced flavors and undertones, but the full-blooded earthy richness of the tomato didn't require it. There was no question that this was a different animal.

We had friends over last night, and I used the tomatoes in a salmon/coconut milk stew. Liked the outcome. Can't wait for the Black Krims to ripen.
